"Ribbon technique" is useful when you insert the terumo GW into the ureter through the lower-pole calyx. It is a matter of IPA (infundibulopelvic angle).

As shown below, "ribbon technique" is useful only during LP puncture. Midpole puncture? The angle from the mid-pole calyx to the ureter is quite straightforward.
